HIDA Webinar Readies Members for Coming Flu Season

The Health Industry Distributors Association's "Preparing Your Customers for the Coming Flu Season" one-hour webinar begins at 2 p.m. EST Aug. 25 and will feature Litjen (L.J.) Tan, MS, Ph.D., director of medicine and public health for the American Medical Association.

The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA), a trade association representing medical products distributors, will present a one-hour webinar Aug. 25 to help its members prepare for the coming influenza season. The two presenters will be Aaron Frazier, senior manager, Government Affairs, at HIDA, and Litjen (L.J.) Tan, MS, Ph.D., director of medicine and public health for the American Medical Association. The event is free to HIDA members, but there is a $199 fee for non-members.

The association says the medical products supply chain plays a critical role in delivering products to health care providers to help them prevent and diagnose the flu virus. Webinar participants will get the latest information from the National Influenza Vaccine Summit and HIDA on how providers are preparing for the flu season and about government programs that will affect the flu products supply chain for the 2011-2012 season.

Frazier has worked for HIDA since 2007 as a member of the government affairs team. He previously worked as a political director on a U.S. Senate campaign and on federal appropriations programs for Holland & Knight LLP. He spoke about the value of the medical products supply chain at the CDC-AMA National Influenza Vaccine Summit, and this is his fifth flu season working on behalf of member distributors.

Tan leads AMA efforts on immunizations and infectious diseases, prevention and health promotion, among others. He is an elected member of the federal National Vaccine Advisory Committee, where he serves on the Adult Immunization, Vaccine Safety, and Healthcare Worker Immunization working groups, and also is a member of the federal Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices. He is co-chair of the National Influenza Vaccine Summit and founded and organized the first National Immunization Congress in 2007.
