Lighting Expert Receives 2011 John Jenkins Award
CSA Standards has recognized Alex Milne for his work on lighting standards, electrical safety standards, and the Canadian Electrical Code Parts I and II.
Alex Milne, who chairs CSA Standards' Technical Committee on Consumer and Commercial Products, is the recipient of the organization's 2011 John Jenkins Award. CSA Standards' June 14 announcement said Milne received its highest honor from Bonnie Rose, CSA Standards president, during the CSA Standards Annual Conference in Victoria, British Columbia.
The John Jenkins Award recognizes someone who has provided distinguished service in the development, advancement, and application of voluntary standards. In Milne's case, he has worked for more than 40 years on lighting standards and electrical safety standards and has contributed to the Canadian Electrical Code's Parts I and II.
"Alex Milne has been indispensable in the area of lighting standards in North America," said Rose. "An admirable proponent and determined advocate of CSA, his expertise in the realm of lighting is exemplified through his positions on 30 different CSA technical committees, including the Technical Committee on Consumer and Commercial Products, of which he is the current chair."
A past chair of the Canadian subcommittee to International Electrotechnical Commission Technical Committee 34, Milne helped develop and submit the Canadian consensus position on IEC lighting standards. He currently works as a consultant and self-employed sales agent to the lighting and appliance industry.
CSA Standards also announced its 2011 Award of Merit recipients June 14. They include Richard Barnes, president and principal engineer at ANRIC Enterprises, Inc. of Toronto, for work on codes and standards related to pressure equipment and nuclear technology; consultant John J. Baron, R.E.T. of High River, Alberta, for work on oil and gas pipeline standards; and Dr. Eva F. Gudgin Dickson of Kingston, Ontario, leader of the CBRN protection group at the Royal Military College of Canada and Defence Scientist for Defence Research and Development Canada, for advancing PPE standards.
