NYC Buildings Department Sets Safety Week Agenda
Taking place April 25-29, the Construction Safety Week will include presentations addressing accident prevention, new concrete requirements, safe use of scaffolds, and safety in demolition.
The New York City Department of Buildings has posted the agenda for its annual Construction Safety Week. Taking place April 25-29, this year's week is packed with important topics for contractors working in one of America's busiest construction regions. Last year, the department's staffers reviewed 457,000 plans, performed 335,000 inspections, and issued more than 136,000 construction permits, according to its 2010 annual report.
The week kicks off at 9 a.m. Monday, April 25, with a four-hour discussion of current construction trends in the city, as well as accident prevention, safety innovations at the city's largest projects, new concrete requirements, safe demolition, safe use of scaffolds, and community partnerships. Events taking place later in the week including a construction site visit, a workers' memorial mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, and three seminars on urban construction challenges, benchmarking & sustainability, and safety design in high-rise construction projects.
