PureSafety Acquires Leading Health Care Software Company

PureSafety said Tuesday its acquisition of Occupational Health Research, which provides SYSTOC® and StolaSystem® software to hospitals and clinics, creates "the largest occupational and employee health solutions provider."

PureSafety announced an acquisition Tuesday that strengthens its offerings and position in occupational health. Acquiring Skowhegan, Maine-based Occupational Health Research, which provides SYSTOC® and StolaSystem® software to hospitals and clinics, "creates the clear market leader in the occupational and employee health market," the acquiring company said in its announcement.

"From its development nearly 30 years ago, OHR pioneered best-in-class tools for the employee health market and has always been a market leader and respected competitor," Bill Grana, president and CEO of Pure Safety, said in the news release. "PureSafety is driven by a similar vision to offer the industry's most complete suite of solutions to manage all facets of occupational safety and health. Adding SYSTOC to our existing software suite creates a total solution that is unmatched in the industry. We are extremely excited to welcome OHR and its employees to PureSafety and look forward to providing their clients with the technology and services they trust, but with the added benefit of a larger, more broad-reaching enterprise to support their success."

Grana said Dr. Bill Newkirk will be Pure Safety's medical director "and will contribute his expertise as we move to integrate both organizations and refine our combined business and product strategies." Newkirk wrote SYSTOC; he incorporated OHR in 1985 along with 10 hospitals then using it and the Redington Memorial Association, a charitable health care trust serving rural Maine, according to the history page on the OHR website. "Much like PureSafety, Dr. Newkirk has always been dedicated to a purpose – to deliver the best possible software solutions and supporting services that provide for the well-being of workers and improve business efficiency and overall performance," Grana said.

"Building this company has been a labor of love for me," said Newkirk. "To see it reach this level of success and join forces with PureSafety is thrilling. I think that this acquisition will be a transformative event in the field of occupational medicine and employee health."
