Expanded Damage Prevention Program Set for 2011 UCT

The Jan. 25-26 event at Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center will cover the principal causes of damage to underground utilities from excavation projects.

The 2011 Underground Construction Technology International Conference will take place Jan. 26-27 inside Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center. It will include an expanded two-day Damage Prevention & Safety Conference covering the principal causes of damage to underground utilities from excavation projects.

This Jan. 25-26 conference, described on the UCT site as offering "safety training at the classroom level," will include an OSHA excavation course and is intended for individuals who locate and mark buried utility infrastructure, damage prevention specialists, utility contractors, and engineers who design underground projects. Its coordinator, Walt Kelly, is a former director of the Minnesota Office of Pipeline Safety who served on the board of directors of Gopher State One-Call, according to Underground Construction magazine.

The three-day registration rate for UCT is $350, with $50 charged for each additional attendee from the same company.
