Canadian Firm Recalls Machine Oil

It was not sold as an individual product but was packaged with power tools sold by Canadian Tire Corporation Ltd. of Toronto from January 2004 to May 2010. Health Canada says the company has sold compliant oil since then.

A bottled machine old that was packaged in power tools sold for the past six years by a Toronto company has been recalled by the company, Health Canada announced Nov. 4. The Mastercraft machine oil was not sold as an individual product but was packaged with tools sold by Canadian Tire Corporation Ltd. of Toronto from January 2004 to May 2010. Health Canada says Canadian Tire has sold compliant oil since then.

The oil came from China and was packaged with impact wrenches, an air chisel, grinding and cutting tools, and nailers, according to the list of products posted by Health Canada. Although no reports of injuries have been received, "it has been determined that the machine oil included in the packaging of these Mastercraft power tools poses an aspiration hazard," according to the agency. "Ingestion of this machine oil may result in serious adverse health effects."

The agency says the oil bottle is not properly labeled and lacks a required child-resistant cap, and the number of products with which it was sold is unknown. Consumers are asked to contact Mastercraft at 1-800-689-9928 to have free replacement oil shipped to them at no cost.
