DOL Revealing 2010-2016 Strategic Plan

Several agencies within the department, including OSHA, have their own presentations on the DOL page that explain how they support the draft plan. It will be posted for review and comment in July.

The U.S. Department of Labor has begun the process of seeking stakeholders' input about its 2010-2016 Strategic Plan. DOL already is accepting comments about the plan via the e-mail address [email protected] and has a strategic plan online page up, with several agencies' supporting documents available.

MSHA's first step to obtain stakeholders' input will be a Web chat on March 25. It will take place from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. EDT at http://www.dol.gov/strategicplan2010.

OSHA's five-page overview says OSHA will measure success by how well fatalities associated with four leading causes of construction and general industry deaths at work are reduced. The four are falls, electrocutions, caught in or between, and struck by. The document also says success will be measured by an increase in the number of targeted hazards abated, citing hearing loss in manufacturing, illnesses in general industry and construction, and workplace amputations. And it says success will be measured by an increased in workers' and employers' awareness of OSHA rights, responsibilities, and programs. The document asks stakeholders to weigh in about whether these are the right outcomes and whether OSHA is using the right measures for the outcomes.

Some supporting materials for the plan will be added later, according to DOL, which indicated a final draft of the plan will be posted for review and comment in July 2010.
