Building Group Recognized for Safety Excellence in Nebraska

OSHA has designated Kiewit Building Group-Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, Neb., as a Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) star site, the department's highest recognition for meeting or exceeding workplace safety and health standards.

Kiewit Building Group, headquartered in Omaha, Neb., is building the 265,000-square-foot Bellevue Medical Center, which will house comprehensive patient services as well as a new medical office building. The site earned VPP recognition following a comprehensive evaluation by a team of OSHA safety and health experts.

"Kiewit Building Group has exhibited excellence in safety and health management," said Charles E. Adkins, OSHA's regional administrator in Kansas City, Mo. "The company's outstanding efforts have included management commitment to and employee involvement in safety and health programs."

The VPP are OSHA's recognition programs for employers and workers who have implemented exemplary workplace safety and health management systems. In VPP, management, labor, and OSHA work cooperatively and proactively to prevent injuries, illnesses, and workplace hazards. As part of attaining VPP status, employers must demonstrate management commitment to the safety and health of their workers and actively involve them in supporting the safety and health management system. For more information about VPP, call OSHA's regional VPP manager at 816-283-8745 or visit www.osha.gov/vpp.
