DuPont Creates New Personal Protection Division
DuPont, manufacturer of such well-known fibers and protective materials as Kevlar®, Nomex®, Tychem®, and Tyvek®, announced yesterday the merger of three of its business units under a new name: DuPont Protection Technologies. The merger combines DuPont Advanced Fiber Systems, Nonwovens, and DuPont Personal Protection.
Thomas G. Powell, who has been serving as vice president and general manager of DuPont Advanced Fiber Systems, will lead the organization as vice president and general manager, the company said.
“We are tremendously excited about the opportunities created for our people and our customers by combining these businesses,” Powell said. “We believe we will be able to quickly simplify internal processes, increase the speed of decision-making, and more fully leverage our large investments in research and development across market segments. These changes will lead to more rapid innovation and improve our responsiveness to customers.”
Powell said the newly combined division will continue to operate its existing manufacturing and research facilities around the world and that there are no plans to close or combine any sites as a result of the restructuring. He also stressed that the business remains committed to the current business strategies and market segments.
“These businesses are responsible for high-performance products and technologies that are known and respected worldwide,” he said. “They have long-standing leadership positions and represent applications and technologies that DuPont is counting on for future growth. We are committed to continuing to invest in capacity and innovation to meet the current and future needs of our customers.”
