MHA announced June 12 that 25 hospitals earned awards in the fourth round of the year-old recognition program, and Cuyuna alone earned awards for three of MHA's four safety campaigns: safe count, safe from falls, and safe site. The campaigns target the most prevalent adverse health events; the fourth one is safe skin, for preventing bedsores.

To qualify for the awards, hospitals must have implemented at least 90 percent of a campaign's required safety measures, such as verifying they reposition at-risk patients at least every two hours to prevent bedsores. The requirements are based on national and state best practices, MHA says.
