American Medical Association Board Chair Dr. Joseph M. Heyman

AMA's Twitter Followers Top 1,000

The American Medical Association is well on its way to developing a devoted following on Twitter. The physicians’ organization announced Wednesday that its Twitter profile, launched two weeks ago, had topped 1,000 followers. AMA's tweets feature health reform news and useful information for doctors, residents, and medical students. Separately, the association and its board chair, Dr. Joseph M. Heyman, announced the launch of a new health information portal for its 240,000 member physicians and the physician population at large to help them increase the efficiency of their practices.

Covisint, a subsidiary of Compuware Corporation, signed an agreement to deploy the portal. DrFirst, a leader in ePrescribing services, will make its ePrescribing application available through the new portal. AMA said it will use the Covisint platform to deliver products, services, and resources aimed at increasing medical practice efficiency and facilitating the adoption of health information technology, including help with implementing electronic health records. "Covisint technology is the gold standard of secure collaboration, and now AMA physicians will have unprecedented access to the latest and most useful information that can help improve patient care and enhance day-to-day practice management," said AMA Board Chair Dr. Joseph M. Heyman. "The AMA is focusing on products and services that can provide very practical and tangible help to practicing physicians."

Physicians will be able to securely log in with one username and one password from any web browser. "Covisint will help AMA improve public health through being an essential, relevant part of physicians' lives," said Bob Paul, president and chief operating officer for Compuware. "AMA and Covisint are thought leaders committed to shaping the future of health care with technology that serves everyone. Together, this partnership leverages technology and innovation in a way that improves lives."
