EPA Extends Comment Period for Universal Waste Rule Amendment
EPA announced that it has added an extra 30 days for the public and stakeholders to comment on the agency's proposal to add hazardous pharmaceutical wastes to the federal universal waste program. The comment period for this proposed rule, Amendment to the Universal Waste Rule: Addition of Pharmaceuticals, is thus extended from the original closing date of Feb. 2 to March 9, 2009. The extension was published in the Jan. 30 Federal Register.
The agency said the extension is in response to requests from the Northeast Waste Management Officials' Association, Waste Management, PharmEcology® Associates LLC, Healthcare Distribution Management Association, Clean Harbors Environmental Services, and the Environmental Technology Council for more time to submit comments on the proposed rule, which was published in the Federal Register on Dec. 2, 2008. The notice was developed by EPA's Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery, formerly known as Office of Solid Waste.
EPA's policy is that all comments received will be included in the public docket without change and may be made available online. Comments, identified by Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-RCRA-2007-0932, can be submitted by one of the following methods:
