Britain Adjusting Chemical Hazard Regulations to GHS
A request seeks comments by Feb. 13 on the proposed Chemical (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 2009, known as CHIP 4, which are required because the European Regulation on the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) is now in effect. The CLP adopts the internationally agreed Global Harmonized System on the classification and labeling of chemicals throughout the European Union.
Britain's Health and Safety Executive said the proposed amendments will allow CHIP to be aligned with the transitional period of the CLP and will ensure CLP provisions can be enforced in Great Britain during and after that period. The agency is using a questionnaire to ask stakeholders whether the amendment will cause problems for them and what initial costs and benefits they expect from CHIP 4.
