Skanska's Global Safety Week Involves 160,000 Employees
Skanska and its Skanska USA Building Inc. unit kicked off the company's Global Safety Week 2008 on Monday, using the week's activities to intensify the safety focus of 60,000 employees and more than 100,000 subcontractor employees around the world. The parent company is based on Stockholm, Sweden. Its U.S. unit, based in Parsippany, N.J., has about 4,700 workers.
The week includes safety training and sessions meant to remind the workforce that an injury-free project requires personal relationships among all management and crafts, according to the company. The weeks' theme, "Planning Prevents Accidents," reminds the workers that active planning should precede every task.
"During the week, we will highlight those activities and share them across the Skanska world to transfer knowledge and experience in a personal and meaningful way. The week serves as an opportunity to celebrate our successes and identify opportunities to improve," said Hendrik Van Brenk, the company's senior vice president of Environmental, Health and Safety.
