Upcoming Safety Conferences: Chicagoland Safety & Health and SHARP/VVP

This year marks the 20th anniversary for the Chicagoland Safety & Health Conference, co-sponsored by the OSHA and slated for September 15-18 at Northern Illinois University, 1120 E. Diehl Road in Naperville.

In conjunction with the safety day, OSHA will co-sponsor the 2nd Annual SHARP/VPP conference on September 17 and 18. This conference within a conference is specifically designed for companies interested in pursuing safety excellence through OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) or Illinois Consultation's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), as well as for companies that have achieved these certification milestones.

Safety managers, supervisors, plant managers, safety committee members, industrial hygienists, human resource managers, risk managers, and employees will be offered the unique opportunity to exchange information and ideas with safety and health professionals in their respective fields.

The pre-conference kicks off with OSHA's 10-hour course for general industry. Participants will receive a federal OSHA 10-hour completion card and an extensive library of compliance materials. Events held on Monday, September 15, also will include a full-day seminar on successful training techniques. This seminar is designed to help attendees develop powerful techniques for presentation delivery.

Events held on Tuesday, September 16 will include full-day seminars on machine guarding and electrical safety presented by renowned experts. Half-day seminars will be available on indoor environmental air quality, women in safety, and preparing for the certified industrial hygienist (CIH) examination. The "Women in Safety" seminar will be presented by professional women who have served in the safety and health field.

The full conference will begin Wednesday, September 17, with more than 40 sessions to choose from and presented by safety and health professionals. Topics will include: workplace hazard recognition, fall protection, machine guarding, controlling explosive dust, conducting safety audits, powered industrial vehicles, overhead cranes and hoists, and electrical safe work practices.

The 2008 conference exposition will feature the latest innovations in products and services focusing on workplace safety and health. Space is limited to 300 participants.
