Health Care Management Book Turns Its Focus on CEOs

Central Michigan University professor Mark Cwiek will present the book he co-authored, "Optimize Your Healthcare Supply Chain Performance: A Strategic Approach," and participate in a book signing session at the American College of Healthcare Executives annual congress March 10 to 13 in Chicago.

Cwiek, who heads the Health Administration program at CMU, wrote the book with co-authors Jerry Ledlow of Georgia Southern University and Allison Corry of the Aramark Corp. He describes the publication as an informational guide geared toward top decision makers in regarding supply chain management in health care systems.

"The attention and appreciation expressed about the book have been very gratifying," Cwiek said. "This opportunity to present at the ACHE congress is considered to be a top professional honor and one that I am very grateful to have."

A former hospital administrator in Michigan and Illinois, Cwiek believes supply chain management is imperative to health care organizations and hopes the book will reach out to the intended audience.

"My main goal in this project was to craft a book that busy CEOs would actually take the time to read," Cwiek said. "I wanted to point out how health care leaders could evolve their organizations' operations into a seamless, integrated system of supply chain management. In doing so, this will help decrease facilities costs, improve operational control, improve the professional lives of their doctors and other clinicians, and ultimately improve patient care."

Cwiek, Ledlow, and Corry have also volunteered to give a 90-minute presentation focused on the book's main concepts with regard to the health care supply chain. More than 4,500 administrators, physicians, board members, students, and others in the health care field will attend the book signing session and congress.
