Audiology's Best & Brightest Meeting in Portland This Week
Some of the best and brightest people in the field of audiology will be meeting in beautiful downtown Portland, Ore., this week for the 33rd annual conference of the National Hearing Conservation Association. The Feb. 21-23 event takes place at the Marriot Downtown Waterfront Hotel, which has an eye-popping Mt. Hood Ballroom and great views of the Willamette River next door.
The event's invited speakers are: Ioan Allen, senior vice president of Dolby Laboratories, who is scheduled to deliver a luncheon speech on "Audio in the Movie Theatre -- Spectacular, Impactful, or Just Too Loud?"; and Sharon Kujawa, Ph.D., director of Audiology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and associate professor of Otology and Laryngology at Harvard Medical School, who will give the keynote speech, "Noise Exposure: Acute Insults and Delayed Neurodegenerative Outcomes." A Friday night event will take place at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, where conference attendees may be able to see a movie about prehistoric sea creatures in the OMNIMAX Dome Theater and sample the soundtrack's volume for themselves.
The annual meeting always offers a strong educational program and an expo of hearing protection vendors. Visit www.hearingconservation.org for more information.
