Sperian Unit Delivering ‘Intelligent Ear Plugs’ to Army, Marines
Sperian Protection Group, the Paris-based manufacturer of PPE products used in many parts of the world, announced Jan. 25 that it has begun delivering QuietPro® hearing protection and radio communication systems to the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army through Nacre, a Norwegian subsidiary. QuietPro is a line of "intelligent hearing systems," in the company's words, that combine adaptive electronic and passive in-ear hearing protection with natural speech and radio communications.
Other PPE manufacturers, including Pittsburgh-based MSA, also supply protective equipment such as helmets to the U.S. military.
Sperian (formerly named Bacou-Dalloz) said these two contracts include replacement parts and end user training and are valued at close to $30 million. "We are pleased by the U.S. military's show of confidence in us. I have no doubt that this will encourage armed forces in other countries beyond our current customer base to acquire these intelligent ear plugs, which are a real technological breakthrough and an aid to military personnel in their operations," Henri-Dominique Petit, chairman and CEO of Sperian Protection, said in the company's news release.
