54,000 Cameras Recalled for Overheating Hazard
Elmo USA Corp. in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has voluntarily recalled about 54,000 Visual Presenters, which were sold as Image Presentation Cameras by Epson and made by ELMO Co. Ltd., of Japan. Improperly installed fluorescent top lights in it can overheat, posing a fire hazard, according to the recall announcement.
No injuries have been reported. The device capture images to LCD panels, LCD projectors, and TV monitors. The recall includes cameras sold under ELMO, Epson, Doar Communications, Vtel, and Tandberg brand names; they were manufactured between December 1993 and December 2003. They were sold at retail nationwide for prices ranging from $2,600 to $9,000.
Consumers should stop using them immediately and contact Elmo USA for all models except Epson; Epson owners should contact Epson. Consumers with recalled units will receive a free inspection and repair.
