AAOHN to Host Free Webcast on Bloodborne Pathogens in the Workplace

The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses Inc., along with OSHA and the American Red Cross, will host a free Webcast highlighting issues surrounding bloodborne pathogens in the workplace on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. EST. The Webcast will review OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, discuss exposure control plans for the workplace, identify personal protective equipment, and outline employee training requirements.

OSHA notes that individuals in many different occupations--first aid team members, housekeeping personnel, nurses, and lab workers, among others--are at risk of contracting a bloodborne pathogen such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, or HIV/AIDS while at work. In 1991, OSHA established the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard to protect workers from the risk of bloodborne pathogens. The standard was revised in 2001 in light of the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act.

1.0 continuing nursing education contact hour (CNE) will be available to participants through AAOHN for the cost of $10. Registration information will be available mid-October at www.aaohn.org.
