2007 Baldrige Award Judging Set for Nov. 12-16

Twelve judges who will decide which companies receive the coveted 2007 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards are scheduled to meet Nov. 12-16 to complete the task. Five all-day meetings at National Institute of Standards and Technology headquarters in Gaithersburg, Md., are planned, and these will be closed to the public to protect applicants' proprietary data, according to a notice published Oct. 23 by NIST. Applications were submitted last May.

The Baldrige Awards began in 1988 and are named for a former Commerce secretary who died in a rodeo accident. Three organizations won the award in 2006: Premier Inc., a Charlotte, N.C.-based health care purchasing alliance that is owned by not-for-profit hospitals; MESA Products Inc., a Tulsa maker of cathodic protection systems; and North Mississippi Medical Center of Tupelo, Miss.
