House Labor Committee Probing 9/11 Illnesses Again Wednesday
The issue of why some Ground Zero responders and recovery workers later developed respiratory illnesses has not gone away, despite congressional hearings and impassioned defenses offered by the people who headed EPA and OSHA at the time. It's possible this will even become an issue in the 2008 presidential campaign, should former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani win the GOP nomination.
At 10 a.m. EDT on Sept. 12, the U.S. House of Representatives Education and Labor Committee will hold another hearing on the matter. The session for the full committee is titled "Why Weren't 9/11 Recovery Workers Protected at the World Trade Center?"
The committee typically offers webcasts of its hearings, but its posting of this one did not indicate whether a webcast will be available or not. The witness list for the hearing also was not available on the morning of Sept. 10. Visit http://edlabor.house.gov/ to check for updates.
