California, Arizona Team Up for Farmworker Safety Seminar
The 2nd Annual California-Arizona Agricultural Employers Seminar will take place Sept. 11 in Winterhaven, Calif., as the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency and the Arizona Department of Economic Security offer safety and labor law guidance to employers and workers. More than 4,000 workers move from Arizona to California with their employers to harvest crops each year; the seminar was created to address differences in state laws and help the employers stay in compliance.
Cal/OSHA, the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, the California Highway Patrol, the Arizona Migrant and Seasonal Farm Worker Program, Arizona Workforce Connection, Panamerican Underwriters, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Western Growers Association, and the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association are participating this year.
Workplace safety, transportation of workers, wage and hour issues, child labor, workers' comp, and the minimum wage will be covered during the event at the Quechan Community Center.
