Alabama Construction Company Earns National Safety Award

Rust Constructors, a Birmingham, Ala.-based full-service merit shop construction and maintenance company, has received a National Safety Excellence Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), an association representing more than 24,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in 78 chapters across the United States.

"ABC congratulates Rust Constructors for its success in maintaining construction workplace safety," said Kirk Pickerel, ABC president and CEO. "Creating a safe workplace is an ongoing process that requires commitment and dedication. It is a pleasure for the association to honor this company's high achievement with our National Safety Excellence Award."

Rust Constructors was one of three firms to receive the award in the General Contractor category. Selection criteria included lost workday case rates, interviews conducted by members of ABC's National Environmental, Health and Safety Committee, and self-evaluation scores.

"Our goal is zero accidents," said Chris Phillips, Rust president and COO. "We focus on preventing the acts and conditions that could lead to an injury, rather than just preventing injuries. We have completed more than four years without a days-away injury."

A subsidiary of the Boise, Idaho-based Washington Group International, Rust Constructors provides construction, construction management, construction consulting, and plant services, including maintenance and small capital project support.
