OSHA Publishes Flu Guidance for Health Workers

OSHA yesterday posted new safety and health guidance about a possible flu pandemic that is intended for health care workers. "Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response Guidance for Healthcare Workers and Healthcare Employers" is online at www.osha.gov/Publications/OSHA_pandemic_health.pdf.

"During an influenza pandemic, the health care community will be on the front line," said OSHA chief Edwin G. Foulke Jr. "This new guidance provides information and tools to help protect health care workers."

The guidance document includes technical information on infection control and industrial hygiene practices to reduce the risk of infection in health care settings; workplace preparations and planning tips; relevant OSHA standards; and information and tools, such as Internet resources, sample infection control programs, and home care resources. If a pandemic occurs, OSHA will furnish up-to-date information to the public through www.pandemicflu.gov.
