Australia Updates Hazardous Substances Information System
The Australian Safety and Compensation Council released an upgraded Hazardous Substances Information System last week and made it available at www.ascc.gov.au/.
Simplified search screens are offered, and improved searching can hunt for chemical names with a prefix. The site offers access to PDF documents that contain all of the hazardous substance records in the database, and these lists will be updated each time there is a change to the records in the searchable database. The new version is supported by a revised User Instruction Manual and updated guidance material, ASCC said.
HSIS was introduced in January 2005, but the council took comments on it from chemical industry stakeholders as late as March of this year. The system is now compliant with IT requirements of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
