Beginner-Level Sessions

Starting your career in the wide world of occupational health and safety? Welcome! Although there’s a lot to learn in the industry, there are endless resources. Check out these sessions if you’re looking to expand your knowledge.

5069 Occupational Health Hazards: Are You at Risk? Join speaker Brendan Moriarty, CSP, CIH, ARM, vice president, Casualty Executive Field Specialist at Chubb Insurance as he talks about health hazards. Per ASSP’s website, “Get practical guidance on how to conduct a risk assessment to identify, prioritize and control your facility's occupational health hazards” during this session on June 5 from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.

6051 Hierarchy of Controls: Are You Getting the Most Out of Your Risk Assessment Toolbox? During this session, Hutchinson Technology Inc. - A TDK company’s Safety Engineer Savannah Runstrom, MS, CSP, will use an example to discuss utilizing the hierarchy of controls and risk assessments, per ASSP. The session takes place on June 6 from 3 to 4 p.m.

Intermediate-Level Sessions

5031 Heat Stress Prevention: Champion an Effective Plan for Your Crew. Summer’s just about here, and that means some employees will be working in hot temperatures. Come learn about elements of a heat stress prevention program from speaker Alsie Nelson, product director at Ergodyne, and hear more about OSHA’s Emphasis Program on the topic. The session takes place on June 5 from 11 a.m. to noon.

6003 The Intersection Between Safety Leadership and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The vital conversation on DEI has been gaining traction over the years. If you’re looking to learn more about DEI and the OHS industry, consider checking out this session. On June 6 from 8 to 9 a.m., “Learn new ways to use the technical aspects of safety compliance to develop leadership for every level of your organization,” per ASSP. Monique Parker, CSP, Vice President - Safety, Environment and Health at Piedmont Lithium Inc., will be the speaker for the event.

Advanced-Level Sessions

5067 Active Shooter and Civil Unrest: Today's Real Threats Left Out of Most Workplace Emergency Plans. When it comes to active shooter incidents and civil unrest, per ASSP, “your workplace training and exercises must incorporate careful and sophisticated response planning.” On June 5 from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m., join President of 911 Consulting Bo Mitchell for this session as he discusses this important topic.

6063 Believe in Safety: A Survivor's Story. During this session, Brandon Schroeder will be sharing the story of how he almost lost his life and “how the incident affected his life and outlook on safety,” per ASSP. The session will take place on June 6 at 4:15 p.m.

Executive-Level Sessions

5062 Identifying Cultural Hazards: Four Clues Your Organization Is Out Of Balance. Hear from Rodney Grieve, Facilitator at BRANTA Worldwide, Inc., as he discusses “four clues that indicate your organization is out of balance and unable to deliver on productivity, safety and quality. It's not about magic or ice cream, it's all about effective leadership," per ASSP on June 5 from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.

6031 A.I. Computer Vision for Forklift Safety: A Case Study at Owens Corning. Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming part of our everyday lives, including in the workplace. In this session on June 6, Keith Bowers, MS, MBA, Founder of Bowers Management Analytics and Bowers.ai, will talk about how computer vision AI can be used in warehouses. Tune in from 10 to 11 a.m. for this session.

Safety 2023 is taking place at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, from June 5 to 7. The expo floor will be open on June 5 from 11:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.;
June 6 from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and June 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Sessions will be offered on June 5 from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.; June 6 from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.; and June 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
