Funding for Grant Available for Worker Safety and Hazard Education, Training
OSHA will award nonprofits $11.7 million for Susan Harwood Training grants.

Training and education on safety and hazards is an essential tool to keep workers safe. To help certain employers provide these trainings, OSHA will be issuing funds through a grant.
According to a press release, OSHA is awarding $11.7 million for the Susan Harwood Training grants to employers for workplace safety and hazards training. Employers eligible include nonprofits and public higher education institutions.
This grant will go towards “disadvantaged, underserved, low-income, and other hard-to-reach, at-risk workers and employers," according to the press release.
There are three categories under the grant that employers can apply to: targeted topic training, training and educational materials development and capacity building. For targeted topic training, funds go to “educational programs that identify and prevent workplace hazards” and training. Money in the training and educational materials development go to building training and materials. Under the capacity building, funds will help employers start new training programs.
Applications close on August 1, 2022, at 11:59 pm. Employers who want to apply are required to register at www.grants.gov and the System of Award Management. The application can be found online.
The program was founded in 1978 under a different name, New Directions. It was renamed in 1997 after the former Director of the Office of Risk Assessment Susan Harwood, who worked at OSHA for 17 years.
