"Biotechnology for Health and Wellness" is the theme of the 234th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, which will take place Aug. 19-23 in Boston. More than 16,000 attendees are expected to hear presentations on energy, nutrition, nanotechnology, and other topics. ACS also released its 2006 annual report on June 18.

The meeting's activities will be held in the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and at hotels across the city. ACS has more than 160,000 members, making it the world's largest scientific society. For general information about the meeting, visit http://chemistry.org/meetings/boston2007.

The society has its main offices in Washington, D.C. Its 2006 annual report is titled "A New Vision at Work: and elaborates on the society's new vision statement, "Improving people's lives through transforming power of chemistry." The report features commentaries from Nobel Laureate Robert Grubbs of the California Institute of Technology and nine other ACS members. "This report clearly explains what ACS aspires to achieve.
