The coaster is the most technologically advanced ride ever built at the Virginia theme park, featuring more electrical components than all of the park's other rides combined.

NFPA Partners with LEGOLAND® Florida

"People who come to LEGOLAND are not only going to enjoy the show, but they're going to learn some important fire safety messages," says NFPA President Jim Shannon, who was on hand to give welcoming remarks Feb. 23 when NFPA kicked off its long-term partnership with LEGOLAND® Florida to provide lifesaving information to families and kids during a press event and special fire safety day at central Florida's newest theme park. NFPA is the official sponsor of "The Big Test," an acrobatic, comedy show in which a cast of real characters goes through a series of hysterical antics as they try to become firefighters. While their approach is slapstick and audience members may find themselves on the wrong end of a stream of water, there are important fire safety messages imparted along the way. The show runs four times a day at the LEGO® City Stage and will be seen by thousands of kids and families during the life of this arrangement.


Better Fruit with Nuclear Technology

Farmers in Croatia are using nuclear technology to tackle the Mediterranean fruit fly, a common pest that poses a serious threat to the country's lucrative fruit industry, as this IAEA video explains. With the support of the IAEA and the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation, Croatia is implementing the Sterile Insect Technique. This technique, also known as "birth control for insects," suppresses populations by breeding large numbers of males that are sterilized with a short burst of radiation. When released into the wild, they breed with females which in turn produce eggs that do not hatch.
