The American Ladder Institute (ALI), the developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, has launched its 2026 Ladder Safety Training and Citations Survey, continuing a multi-year effort to evaluate ladder safety training, injuries, and OSHA citation trends nationwide.
The survey marks the fifth installment of the research initiative, following previous reports released in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2024. Together, the surveys have created a longitudinal record of ladder-related incidents, OSHA enforcement activity, and the effectiveness of safety training programs.
Data collected in the 2026 survey will be compiled into a comprehensive report after the survey closes. Findings are expected to highlight preferred methods of ladder safety education, common ladder-related accidents and injuries, the frequency and types of OSHA ladder citations, and how current trends compare with previous survey results.
ALI is encouraging safety professionals, employers, and organizations that use ladders as part of their operations to participate. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous and not linked to individuals or companies.
The deadline to complete the survey is March 31, 2026. The survey is available at:

“Results will help ALI continue to improve its ladder safety training materials, refine topics for future National Ladder Safety Month observances, and help professionals and DIYers better understand proper ladder use,” said Mike Van Bree, president of the American Ladder Institute.
The survey launch coincides with preparations for the 10th anniversary of National Ladder Safety Month, observed each March. The 2026 theme, “10 Years of Safer Climbing,” focuses on five weekly topics: Choosing the Right Ladder; Check Before You Climb; Set It Up Safely; Climb Safely, Work Safely; and a fifth week added for the anniversary, Safe Steps with Stepstools.
ALI offers free ladder safety training through its dedicated website, https://www.laddersafetytraining.org . Organizations can also license the training for use within their own safety programs.
Sponsors supporting National Ladder Safety Month include Bauer Ladder, Builders Mutual, COSCO, Dorsey & Whitney, Fasteners Direct, Goshen Stamping, Gutter Saver PRO Inc., Hasegawa USA Inc., International Masonry Institute, International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Liberty Wire Johnstown, Little Giant, Louisville Ladder, Lynn Ladder & Scaffolding, National Association of Home Builders, New England Ladder, Risk Retention Services Inc., RT Specialty, Strongwell, Tricam Industries/Gorilla Ladders, True North Companies, Valley Fastener Group, and Werner Co.
