North Carolina Ranked #2 in Nation for Workplace Safety
North Carolina earned the No. 2 national ranking for workplace safety, reflecting statewide efforts to reduce risks, improve training, and strengthen safety culture.

North Carolina has been ranked second in the nation for workplace safety, according to a new WalletHub study. The ranking reflects the collective efforts of employers, employees, and safety professionals statewide to reduce risks and improve safety standards.
Under Labor Commissioner Luke Farley, the North Carolina Department of Labor has focused on strengthening workplace safety and supporting employers in creating safer environments.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our state’s workforce — from business owners to safety officers to employees who prioritize safety every day,” Farley said. “We’re proud of this progress, and we know our work is not done. Our goal is not just to be one of the safest states to work — but the safest in the nation.”
The WalletHub study evaluated all 50 states using metrics such as workplace injuries and illnesses, emergency preparedness, and occupational fatality rates. NCDOL plans to build on the ranking by continuing to provide training resources and partnering with businesses to promote a strong safety culture statewide.
