NSC Honors Sarah Futrell with 2025 Marion Martin Award

Futrell, Chief of Safety and Occupational Health for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mississippi Valley Division, is recognized for leadership, advocacy and advancing women in safety.

The National Safety Council has named Sarah Futrell, Chief of Safety and Occupational Health for the Mississippi Valley Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as the recipient of the 2025 Marion Martin Award.

The award, presented Sept. 15 during the NSC Safety Congress & Expo in Denver, honors women who have made significant contributions to advancing safety and opening doors for other women in the profession.

Futrell has spent 17 years with the Corps, where she has helped shape best practices, mentored future leaders, and developed policies to strengthen workplace safety. Her work has led to increased female representation in the field and has influenced regulations with long-lasting impact.

“Through her commitment to rigorous safety practices and advancing opportunities for women, Sarah exemplifies the spirit of Marion Martin,” said NSC President and CEO Lorraine Martin. “Her measurable impact at the Army Corps of Engineers shows what is possible when we combine technical excellence with a commitment to developing the next generation of leaders. It is with great pleasure we present her with this award.”

First launched in 2016, the Marion Martin Award annually celebrates women in safety who embody innovation, advocacy, and leadership while paving the way for others.
