Columbia Southern University’s College of Safety and Emergency Services has named Jennifer Keach as its 2025 Outstanding Safety Professional of the Year. Keach, who resides in Katy, Texas, serves as a health, safety and environmental manager at SLB in Houston.
Keach’s path to a career in occupational safety and health (OSH) began in the early 2000s, when she entered the oil and gas industry as a truck driver. She later became a field supervisor in operations. A workplace incident in 2010 prompted her to pursue a safety-focused role—an experience she described as preventable and eye-opening.
“One of the key motivations was witnessing the significant impact a safety professional can have both at work and at home,” Keach said. “Additionally, I was inspired by my sister, who has been my role model in the OSH industry, demonstrating that one person can indeed make a difference.”
In addition to her professional achievements, Keach is active in her local community. She regularly volunteers at beach cleanups and recently organized a neighborhood book swap. “I am passionate about volunteering in my community, as it allows me to give back and collaborate with like-minded individuals,” she said. “Through volunteering, I can build meaningful connections and expand my network.”
Keach holds multiple professional credentials, including the Certified Safety Professional® and Graduate Safety Professional® designations from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, as well as the National Construction Safety Officer® designation. She has received several industry honors and was named a Eureka Leader at SLB. She earned both her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in occupational safety and health from Columbia Southern University.
The Outstanding Safety Professional Award was established by Columbia Southern University in recognition of National Safety Month, observed annually in June. The award honors OSH students and graduates for their commitment to safety, professionalism, and continued achievement in the field.
