BCSP and CIDC Partner to Advance Safety Standards in Construction

BCSP partners with India’s CIDC to promote global safety standards and workforce development in the construction industry, enhancing safety practices and professional certification pathways.

A new collaboration between the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and India’s Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) aims to improve safety practices and professional development in the construction sector. The partnership aims to bolster efforts to build a culture of safety and excellence in India and beyond.

"The recent memorandum of understanding signed by BCSP and CIDC focuses on enhancing safety in India's construction industry through globally accredited professional certification," BCSP Board President Ashok Garlapati said in a statement. "This partnership falls in line with our strategic objective to expand our reach and further illustrates the concept of ‘think globally, act locally.'"

The agreement focuses on promoting professional certifications, increasing awareness of safety practices and fostering workforce development. Established by India’s Planning Commission (now NITI Aayog) in 1996, CIDC plays a key role in shaping the country's construction industry by advocating for workforce safety, skill development and sustainable growth.

This collaboration aligns with BCSP’s efforts to expand its global reach. The Indianapolis-based organization has certified over 100,000 safety professionals since 1969. CIDC’s ongoing initiatives will benefit from BCSP’s expertise, bringing international safety standards and professional development resources to India’s construction workforce.
