The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) have launched the "Improving Exposure Judgments" initiative, providing free tools and resources to help health and safety professionals more accurately evaluate and address exposure risks in the workplace.
"Many workplace environments contain hazardous materials that pose serious risks to workers and can lead to long-term health issues. OEHS professionals have an ethical duty to capture the most accurate exposure data possible," AIHA CEO Lawrence Sloan said in a statement. "The Improving Exposure Judgment tools and resources are designed to enhance OEHS professionals’ skills, contributing to safer workplaces and healthier communities."
A recent AIHA survey revealed that many traditional methods used to assess worker exposure to hazardous substances may not capture the full extent of risk, prompting a call for advanced techniques among health and safety professionals. In fact, most OEHS professionals feel they lack enough data above the limit of detection to apply statistical tools to accurately and effectively characterize exposure risks to workers.
The new initiative equips professionals with various resources, including video courses, software tools and instructional apps. These resources provide better protection through improved judgments, increased confidence with verifiable data analysis, stronger communication among professionals and greater efficiencies in assessing risk.
