MSHA’s Annual Conference Coming to West Virginia This Month

The annual Training Resources Applied to Mining Conference aims to advance the skills of mine safety trainers and promote safety education for the mining industry.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) will host its annual Training Resources Applied to Mining (TRAM) conference from Nov. 12 to 15, 2024, at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beaver, West Virginia.

According to a recent release, the event will focus on enhancing training techniques and knowledge-sharing among mine safety and health professionals. MSHA’s goal is to equip trainers with advanced skills and insights to improve safety for miners working in metal, nonmetal and coal mines. Topics include opioid use disorder and educating miners about the Mine Act, according to MSHA Assistant Secretary Chris Williamson.

“TRAM remains a valuable opportunity to work together to ensure that miners return home safe and healthy at the end of their shifts to their families and communities,” Williamson said in a statement.

The conference will include in-person and online workshops, demonstrations, exhibits led by MSHA and industry stakeholders, and results of MSHA’s annual competition of mining training materials. Interested parties must register online to attend, though attendance is free. More on the TRAM Conference is available on the MSHA website.
