DOL’s Advisory Board on Toxic Substances and Worker Health Will Meet on Oct. 30

The board will address issues related to nuclear weapons workers with health conditions caused by toxic exposure.

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has announced that the Advisory Board on Toxic Substances and Worker Health will hold its next meeting online on Oct. 30, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Time. The meeting will be open to the public.

According to a recent release, the board is part of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). The act provides compensation and medical benefits to nuclear weapons workers diagnosed with medical conditions caused by their exposure to toxic substances at covered nuclear facilities.

The board meets at least twice a year to offer technical advice to the DOL regarding compensation claims and health issues faced by affected workers. It advises the Secretary of Labor on technical elements related to the EEOICPA and is comprised of 12 members from the scientific, medical and claimant communities.

The Oct. 30 meeting will be held via teleconference, with details available on the board's website at least three days before the event. Comments, materials and requests to speak must be submitted via email by Oct. 23, 2024, to [email protected]. More details on the upcoming event are available on the Federal Register notice.
