OSHA Cites Wisconsin Dollar General for Electrical Hazards

The retail giant faces $147,334 in proposed penalties.

Dolgencorp LLC, operating as Dollar General, is once again under scrutiny by OSHA.

According to a recent release, OSHA inspectors have proposed $147,334 in penalties to the Dollar General location in Crandon, Wisconsin. The investigation—which began in May 2023—uncovered three repeat electrical safety violations for the improper connection of two movable power taps, an uncovered outlet and the misuse of flexible wiring in place of required fixed wiring. Inspectors also cited one other-than-serious violation for the insecure stacking of totes.

“Using electrical power taps, wiring and outlets safely protects workers from electrical hazards,” OSHA Area Director Robert Bonack in Appleton, Wisconsin, said in a statement. “Managers responsible for this Dollar General location must address these issues immediately before these hazards cause a more serious problem.”

OSHA previously identified similar violations at Dollar General locations in Troy, New Hampshire, and Mobile and South Ashland, Alabama. Since September 2013, the agency has conducted more than 500 inspections at the company’s stores. Dollar General Corp. operates more than 19,000 stores across the U.S. and Mexico and employs approximately 170,000 people.

The company now has a 15-business-day window to either comply with these most recent citations, seek an informal conference with OSHA’s area director or challenge the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
