DOL Announces $94M in Grants for Infrastructure Job Training

The funding aim to prepare a diverse workforce for high-demand positions.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs Grant Program will award nearly $94 million in grants to 34 public-private partnerships across 25 states and the District of Columbia as part of the Biden-Harris administration’s “Investing in America” agenda.

According to a release dated Sept. 26, this funding initiative— overseen by the Employment and Training Administration—will help recipients design, develop and grow training programs and work-based learning opportunities to prepare jobseekers for careers in advanced manufacturing, information technology and professional, scientific and technical service. Supported industries include renewable energy, transportation and broadband infrastructure.

“The Department of Labor is making investments that will serve as a down payment to meet the skilled workforce needs of President Biden’s historic Investing in America agenda,” Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su said in a statement. “We look forward to working with our grantees to help to strengthen and expand our workforce to provide opportunities for good-paying, family-sustaining jobs.”

The DOL’s funding aims to develop training programs, emphasizing the inclusion of marginalized and rural communities. The grants promote industry-responsive curriculum, focusing on diversity and equity. Programs will pave accessible paths to infrastructure jobs, aligning with the Biden-Harris administration’s Investing in America agenda to foster a skilled, diverse workforce.
