OSHA Cites Pennsylvania Dumpster Manufacturer with Numerous Safety Violations

The company is hit with penalties amounting to $484,401.

Custom Container Solutions—with operations throughout Pennsylvania—specializes in manufacturing steel containers and is now under the spotlight for a series of OSHA violations.

According to a release dated Sept. 25, a recent OSHA investigation into the company identified a series of significant safety and health violations at its Milton, Pennsylvania location. OSHA launched the inspection in March 2023 as part of the agency’s site-specific targeting program. The result was two willful, three repeat, 23 serious and two other-than-serious citations as well as $484,401 in proposed penalties.

OSHA cited Custom Container Solutions for violations such as failure to provide no-cost PPE, failure to establish and implement a respiratory protection program and related evaluations and training, failure to provide a hearing conservation program and training and improper storage of flammable materials. Other infractions include failure to complete PPE assessments, the lack of an energy control program, improper machine guarding and electrical hazards.

“Safety and health should be a core value in every workplace, and Custom Container Solutions is placing its workers in jeopardy by disregarding required protections,” OSHA Area Director Mary Reynolds in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, said in a statement. “They must correct the hazards identified before someone gets hurt.”

Following these citations, Custom Container Solutions has 15 days to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA—as it has already done—or challenge the agency’s findings.
