Frederick Shares Insights at Safety+ OSHA Mega Session

Deputy Assistant Secretary Jim Frederick offers details on OSHA initiatives and helps recognize safety excellence at this week’s Safety+ Symposium.

Jim Frederick, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, spoke at a Sept. 18 OSHA Mega Session during the VPPPA’s Safety+ Symposium, which ran Sept. 17-20 at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

Introduced warmly by long-time United Steel Workers colleague and friend Dan Aleksandrowicz of Motiva Enterprises LLC, Frederick shared insights into OSHA’s present and forthcoming endeavors to enhance workplace safety. Frederick has 30 years of experience providing occupational health and safety leadership to North American labor unions including 25 years in USW’s Health, Safety and Environment Department.

The highlight of the session was the presentation of the 2023 National SGE of the Year Award to Robert Simmons for his remarkable contributions to safety by Frederick.

In addition to Simmons’ recognition, the Mega Session honored the hard work of safety advocates from Regions I through X. The SGE of the Year Award finalists from these regions received congratulatory certificates, underlining their commitment to elevating safety standards.
