Safety+ Symposium Highlights: Three Must-See Workshops

Attendees have the opportunity to expand their knowledge with a dynamic lineup of sessions on Sept. 19 and 20.

With the 2023 Safety+ Symposium in full swing at the Orlando World Center Marriott, attendees looking to further their safety knowledge have a wide array of workshops at their disposal. Among the more than 50 workshops scheduled for the event, here are three sessions that promise insightful takeaways for all participants:

History of the World in Six Poisons on Sept. 19, from 1 p.m. to 1:50 p.m.
David Campos and Hyte Johnson dive deep into the history of toxicological exposures, from chimney dust to asbestos. This presentation aims to enlighten participants about how these toxins influenced major policy developments and how risk assessment processes can better address emerging issues. Campos is the Sr. Manager of Environment Health & Safety at Raytheon Missiles and Defense, and Johnson is the Director of Environment Health & Safety at Raytheon.

Delivering Powerful Safety Feedback on Sept. 20, from 8 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.
This interactive session with Ryan Bouda emphasizes the importance of delivering effective safety feedback for growth. Participants will be equipped with strategies for clear communication, and they will understand the significance of preparing for these crucial discussions. Bouda is a Leadership and Culture Specialist at LEAP Training & Coaching.

The Value of Venting: Encouraging Employee Feedback for Improved Safety Outcomes on Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.
Tim Page-Bottorff discusses the essence of psychological safety and its connection to feedback and safety outcomes. Attendees will gain insights into bridging the gaps in their Safety Management System (SMS) by harnessing employee feedback. Page-Bottorff serves as a Senior Safety Consultant at SafeStart.

With these sessions and many others left in the workshop program, the Safety+ Symposium aims to provide a hub for learning best practices in workplace safety. Visit safety.vpppa.org/program/ to learn more.
