AIHA Guideline Foundation Awarded $10,000 by ACC for Emergency Response Plans

The funds aim to bolster the development of guidelines for hazardous airborne exposures.

The AIHA Guideline Foundation—part of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA)—just received a second $10,000 donation from the American Chemistry Council (ACC).

The donation is directed towards the continued expansion of the Emergency Response Planning Guidelines (ERPG) program. ERPGs are designed for evaluating short-lived airborne exposures to hazardous chemicals related to spills. They’re most often used for accident prevention and emergency response planning. ERPGs have been an integral part of the Department of Transportation’s Emergency Response Guidebook since 1989.

The AIHA Guideline Foundation, the exclusive entity to establish and uphold ERPGs, is credited with the publication of the Emergency Response Planning Guidelines Handbook. This comprehensive manual serves as a beacon for first responders, guiding them through the initial stages of hazardous material transportation incident management.

“We deeply appreciate ACC’s continued support of the AIHA Guideline Foundation's Emergency Response Planning Guidelines program,” AIHA CEO Lawrence D. Sloan said in a statement. “This contribution sustains the development of ERPGs and reinforces the essential partnership between our organizations to equip first responders and disaster relief professionals with the tools they need to ensure effective emergency preparedness and response.”

The AIHA has a long history of advocacy for professionals dedicated to preserving occupational and environmental health and safety. ACC, meanwhile, represents the leading companies in the ever-expanding domain of chemistry and associated products, services, and practices therein.
