OSHA Cites Dixon Ticonderoga for Recurring Safety Lapses

The art supply manufacturer is now facing $203,806 in penalties.

Neenah, Wisconsin-based art supply manufacturer Dixon Ticonderoga Co. is once again drawing attention to safety violations at their facility.

In a release dated August 18, OSHA announced the findings of its investigation into Dixon Ticonderoga. In February 2023, an incident occurred in which an employee suffered an amputation. Now OSHA has determined an inadequately guarded press machine was responsible.

As a result of the OSHA investigation, Dixon Ticonderoga faces potential fines of $203,806. In addition to the absence of safety guards, the company hadn't put in place defined procedures to manage hazardous energy, particularly when employees serviced or maintained this machinery. All in all, OSHA cited Dixon Ticonderoga to two repeat and four serious violations.

“For the fourth time in three years, our inspectors found Dixon Ticonderoga exposing workers to severe injuries by failing to make sure dangerous machines are guarded or de-energized as required,” OSHA Area Director Robert Bonack in Appleton, Wisconsin, said in a statement.

Dixon Ticonderoga’s Neenah facility has been cited on three separate occasions since 2020 for similar violations. Regarding this latest round, the company now has 15 business days to comply with OSHA's findings, request an informal conference or contest OSHA’s findings.
