Emirates Global Aluminum Now Uses Wearable Safety Tech to Combat UAE Heat

The decision is part of the company’s “Beat the Heat” campaign.

Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) specializes in the global production of aluminum. And now the company is leaning on technology to fight record-breaking heat.

In a release dated August 9, EGA announced the company is now using wearable technology in its “Beat the Heat” program. Throughout the summer of 2023, EGA has introduced a renewed focus on heat stress throughout its operations. Previous efforts include employee training to detect early signs of heat stress, hydration tests before and during the workday, encouraging regular breaks and the introduction of cooling showers.

Now EGA is leveraging Kenzen’s wearable safety monitoring solution. Three hundred and fifty EGA employees volunteered to wear the technology, which monitors real-time body indicators such as temperature, heart rate and activity. The decision to integrate Kenzen’s products at EGA follows a trial run in the summer of 2022, in which 50 employees participated.

“Heat-related illness is a serious threat to health and even life in our region, and increasingly around the world,” EGA’s CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said in a statement. “Our work has shown that heat-related illness is entirely preventable, even in challenging industrial environments like ours. Wearable technology offers the potential to protect people even more, and I am looking forward to the results of the wider trial we are conducting this summer.”

EGA—which is based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)—has made continuous efforts to eliminate heat-related illness each summer for more than a decade, according to the release.
