OSHA Findings at Wisconsin Dollar Tree Result in Proposed Penalties of $98K

Obstructed exit routes and aisles were found at the location, the agency said.

Dollar Tree Inc. is facing proposed penalties of almost $100,000 after an inspection in January 2023.

Prompted by an employee complaint, OSHA’s investigation at a Pewaukee, Wisconsin—under 20 miles west of Milwaukee—Dollar Tree found obstructed aisles and exit routes, according to a news release.

OSHA cited the company for one repeat violation and issued $98,219 in proposed penalties.

This recent citation is not the first for the discount store company, which employs over 193,000 people. Over 300 violations have been identified at Dollar Tree stores across the U.S. since 2017.

"OSHA inspectors repeatedly find Dollar Tree employees exposed to the risks of injury from stacked merchandise, and blocked aisles and exits," said Occupational Safety and Health Area Director Christine Zortman in Milwaukee in the news release. "They need to develop and follow a company-wide safety and health program for its stores to eliminate these well-known hazards and protect the safety of their employees."
