NSC Joins Roundtable on Technology and Worker Safety

In August, NSC talked with a U.S. Senator and other industry members on the role of technology in safety.

In late August, the President and CEO of the National Safety Council (NSC) Lorraine Martin met with US Senator Bob Casey and many industry members at a roundtable to discuss how technology can increase worker safety.

In 2020, 4,764 workers lost their lives at work, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) was signed into law in November 2021. According to the news release, “…it is more important than ever employers and workers have access to and information about all safety technologies available. IIJA may create as many as 1.5 million new jobs each year.”

Martin and Casey joined members from various industries including labor, business and government, the news release said.

“Everyone has the right to return home from work safely each and every day,” said Lorraine Martin, president and CEO of NSC in the news release. “No fatality is acceptable, and all are preventable. It is our duty as safety leaders and policymakers to do everything within our power to educate employers and workers about technologies that are available and are best for their particular industry or workplace environment.”

The roundtable took place at Chatham University.
