Customized Golf Ball Company's “Star” Designation Renewed by OSHA

The company was recognized for its work in health and safety.

OSHA has renewed the “star level” designation of a customized golf ball facility for its excellent work in health and safety.

According to a press release, Acushnet Company, Custom Operations of New Bedford, Massachusetts, was inspected in November 2021 and had its status renewed. The company was first designated as a “star level” site in 1998.

Acushnet Company, Custom Operations makes customized golf balls and employs about 200 workers who “develop graphics, operate printing and finishing machines, package, warehouse and ship products and perform office functions.”

The certification falls under OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP), the highest level of health and safety recognition. According to the website, under the VPP, companies are re-evaluated every three to five years.

“The level of workplace safety and health practiced by Acushnet Company, Custom Operations over the years is inspiring,” said OSHA Regional Administrator Galen Blanton in Boston in the press release. “This long-standing participant has an exceptional record of safety and health innovation. The managers and employees work to continuously improve processes. Since their last reapproval they have focused on new machine guarding and changes to material handling equipment to reduce ergonomic stressors. We know from experience that design improvements often benefit employee safety and health and production quality.”
