Texas Assistant Professor Receives $10,000 Grant
UTSA assistant professor will use technology to help advance steel worker safety.

An assistant professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio received a $10,000 grant to conduct a project that evaluates worker safety management in the steel manufacturing industry, according to UTSA Today.
Ibukun Gabriel Awolusi, an assistant professor of construction science, is the recipient of the Don B. Daily Safety Grant from the Association for Iron and Steel Technology Foundation and the Steel Manufacturers Association.
Awolusi and his students will execute a project called “Wearable Sensing Devices and the Internet of Things for Worker Safety and Health Management in the Steel Manufacturing Industry.”
He plans to use safety techniques such as wearable sensing devices and Internet of Things to help prevent illnesses, injuries, fatalities and hazardous working conditions for steel manufacturers.
